The Williams home is likely the most photographed in Edgefield - you probably recognize it from the cover of Preservation News! Brick, terra cotta, and shingles give texture to this Queen Anne-style one and a half story house, built in 1888 by a local lumber baron. Arched entrance, stone trim, decorative glass, and the domed tower are all distinctive exterior elements. Early pioneers Carol and the late Charlie Williams purchased the home in 1975 and returned it to the family home it once was. Now three generations of the Williams family have enjoyed it! As many in the area, this house had been carved into apartments and no small amount of work was needed to bring it to the elegant home you'll see on the Candlelight Tour. The upstairs, formerly the attic, is a fun-filled space with, what?! A twisted chimney? The corner fireplace of the dining room had to take a turn to exit the roofline in the right direction. Downstairs, an exciting contemporary addition is tucked in at the rear of the house behind the restored spaces with high ceilings that showcase the mantles and millwork in the original home.
