602 Russell Street Here's an example of one of Edgefield's extreme makeovers. Jen Hagan-Dier and Zach Dier call this bungalow home, but the first house here was a large two story Victorian home destroyed in that big Fire. The stone foundation is presumably from the original house, as it was the practice at the time to reuse the foundation blocks, sometimes even building right on top of them. The Arts and Crafts movement influenced Edgefield heavily in the rebuilding after 1916, and you'll find every variety of detail imaginable. Jen and Zach's home has unusual diamond patterns in the brick used on the exterior and the graceful arched fanlight above the door is especially remarkable. Inside is a noteworthy "bungalow" stone fireplace and Moorish arched doorway with a story to tell. You'll drool over the award winning kitchen and probably be surprised at the upstairs tucked under the roof in a modern day renovation. |
