600 Russell Street

First renovation of Betty and Jim Wooten's home took place after the Fire of 1916. The roof and porch were badly burned, and replaced with simpler roof form and large brick and stone columns reflective of the style of the time. The stained glass stairway window is the only original one left in Edgefield. Maybe being next door to Tulip church gave pause to the "pickers" of the 1960s and '70s when most of the stained glass in Edgefield "disappeared". The original beamed ceiling of the bay room is still in place and the butler's pantry has new life in the family kitchen. This home also boasts one of the few surviving original carriage houses in this neighborhood. Most were demolished during Urban Removal, er...make that Urban Renewal.
